Joe Lycett had Late Night Lycett

Joe Lycett has addressed why his Channel 4 Late Night Lycett show "had" to be from Birmingham. The Birmingham comedian has been presenting the show for the last four weeks on Channel 4, with episodes each Friday from 10pm.

The show has seen a variety of guests - from new Channel 4 The Great British Bake Off host and ITV This Morning and Big Brother legend Alison Hammond to BBC Strictly Come Dancing It Takes Two star Rylan - as well as Joe giving away his *actual* car on April 21.

“I don’t think it’s possible to do this show in London. I love the capital but it has so much TV that audiences and productions can get desensitised to the excitement of it. Any given night you could probably go to a dozen or so TV records in London," Joe told the Guardian.

Emily Hudd, the managing director of Rumpus Media, the production company behind the show, said hosting it in Digbeth was a "deal breaker" for the comic. “It had to be from Birmingham, but more than just geographically. It had to capture the essence of Birmingham," she told the newspaper.

"Each Friday a mix of Joe’s community of local legends, LGBTQ+ heroes and allies will join him alongside celebrities and big-name guests from the worlds of comedy, television, music, and film," the official synopsis teases. "With inclusivity and fun at its heart, the series will see Joe take a look back at the week in a way only he can – combining his unique brand of mischief and mayhem with his singular style of comedy.
