Creative Classes 2023 | Wet Felting Bowls and Bags 1 Day | Denver Art Museum

This workshop teaches students how to wet felt a vessel. The two options provided to learn are bowls and handbags. You will learn the fundamentals of wet felting with a resist. The course will use the museum’s 2013 exhibition, Spun: Adventures in Textiles, as a point of inspiration. In relating to this exhibition, students will learn the importance and relationships of colors and the benefits of creating with fibers as a community. The finished product is satisfying, and the students can take home an object that is both utilitarian and a work of art.

Students can expect to be working most of the time with messy materials. The process is physically demanding and hands-on. You will begin with covering your resist with wool, agitating the wool, then repeating the process multiple times. The felting process will involve a lot of agitation and repeated throwing around of the object. Students will be making one finished artwork. Students do not need any prior knowledge, but will need to be prepared for many layers of work. Felt Storage Bin
